Wednesday, June 17 2009 SKINNER ACCEPTS 3000 SIGNATURES TO SAVE MOSMAN POLICE STATION
North Shore MP Jillian Skinner today tabled petitions in Parliament signed by over 3000 concerned Mosman residents fighting to save the Mosman Police Station. Mrs Skinner met Mosman Mayor Dom Lopez on the steps of State Parliament and renewed her strong opposition to State Government moves to sell the heritage-listed property in the heart of Mosman. ``Since the Government first announced the station was on the chopping block there has been enormous community outrage,’’ Mrs Skinner said. ``The support to keep it open has gained momentum over the past few weeks with petitions and posters lining the streets and many people protesting through my electorate office. ``Quite clearly, the community wants Police Minister Tony Kelly and the Rees Government to reverse the decision to move the Highway Patrol officers and abandon the people of Mosman.’’ Mrs Skinner said she had grave doubts that any proposed development on the site could go ahead – it is heritage-listed and was built in 1901. ``The moves to sell the property are just another example of the Government’s ill thought out proposals and now they need to do a back-flip,’’ she said. ``I have been assured by Mayor Lopez that Mosman Council will ignore any request to have the land re-zoned. ``The way the Government has tried to force this through has been disgraceful’’.
