SUPPORTING THE FILM AND TELEVISION INDUSTRY The NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition today released a six point plan in support of the Film and Television industry in NSW. "We recognise the financial and cultural benefits that a thriving local film production industry can bring to the state," said Shadow Arts Minister Jillian Skinner "The film and television industry has earned NSW millions of dollars over the years with money invested in film production also creating a high multiplier effect - in other areas of the Arts, in hospitality and tourism," she said. "But there have been many lost opportunities over recent years. "A survey conducted by the NSW Film Makers Group in 2005-06 found that 'production levels are at an all time low and many people are struggling in the industry'. "The Group points out that the natural attractions of Sydney are no longer sufficient and other states have become more competitive. "That is why the NSW Coalition has developed a five point plan to help restore NSW as a location of choice for both overseas and local film and television production. 1. Providing benefits comparable to other states including incentives such as payroll tax exemptions 2. Addressing the high cost of government owned locations and encouraging the adoption of the protocols developed in 2000 with local government; 3. Ensuring NSW participates in the competitive tendering process for the staging of future major film awards; 4. Increasing the international marketing staff of the NSW Film and Television Office; 5. Amending the The NSW Film and Television Office Act to include in its functions:
